About Vedic Math

Vedic Mathematics is a science that was rediscovered just half a century back by India Scholar Sri Bharti Krsha Tirthaji. It helps in achieving Maths Well Being and Naturalness similar to the benefits of yoga in physical well being or meditation in mental well being. Vedic Mathematics methods are simpler and more enjoyable than the equivalent algorithms of modern mathematics.

Vedic Mathematics system is a natural system. It comprises of general and special methods for mathematical calculations based on the natural functioning of the mind. It's methods are flexible and provide a scope for expressing creativity. In conventional math, mind thinks in a defined way. Vedic math offers many ways of computation depending upon an intuitive understanding of the numbers (which comes with practice). This flexibility makes problem solving a creative process.

Vedic Math's naturalness makes it easy to grasp, enjoyable and fast to execute. A child who has learnt and practiced Vedic Math would look at the numbers in a problem, get an intuitive 'sense' of the numbers and mind automatically identify the best strategy of solving. Computations happen in seconds. The joy and ease of doing Vedic math sums sets the right foundation for higher math.

Vedic mathematic calculations can be performed mentally or on paper (as may be required in school work). It provides the right foundation of mental math and analytical ability not only in children, but also in young adults taking entrance examinations for tertiary institutions.

An appreciation for the full beauty, power and effectiveness of Vedic math would require devoting some time to learning and, very importantly, practicing it. The gains from learning the system are tremendous and remain useful not only in academics but all through life.

Vedic Math strategies can be easily proven geometrically and algebraically.

History of Vedic Mathematics

The Vedic Mathematics system as we know it today is attributed to a learned scholar Sri Bharti Krishna Tirthaji, whose book titled 'Vedic Mathematics' was published posthumously in 1965. He was a renowned Vedanta scholar, a mathematician par excellence and the spiritual head of Govardhan Math, Puri, India. Tirthaji's research, from 1911 to 1918, rediscovered the ancient mathematical system from the Vedas. In February 1958, he went on a trans-oceanic tour to America to speak on world peace and Vedanta, staying 3 months in Los Angeles, California and travelling via the United Kingdom. Tirthaji amazed his audiences with not only the depth of the Vedanta philosphy but the ease, speed and creative aspect of Mathematics.

The Vedic Mathematics system has since been researched globally, by several Indian and western mathematicians and universities. The system covers many streams such as Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus etc. Particularly popular are Vedic Math methods for learning arithmetic, as they make Arithmetics very creative, fast and easy for children as well as adults.
